Chemical peels. Fresher, smoother, more even skin.

A controlled exfoliation that renews the skin to improve wrinkles, acne scars, sunspots and uneven pigment.

Sun, skin conditions, ageing and heredity can all leave wrinkles, acne scars, freckles, sunspots or visible vessels. A peel solution speeds up cell turnover and collagen production, loosening the outer layer so it peels away to reveal smoother skin. Peels can be used on the face, neck, back and hands.

Superficial peels have no downtime, can be done all year on every skin type and colour, and are safe during pregnancy. Medium peels give more dramatic results for heavier sun damage or pigmentation, are done in autumn and winter, and suit lighter skin types only.

Depending on depth, skin heals in one to five days. A course of peels two weeks apart gives the best results.

Superficial peels treat

  • Acne and post-acne marks
  • Melasma and uneven pigment
  • Sun damage

Possible side effects

  • Lighter or darker patches, more likely in darker skin types
  • Redness that lasts longer after deeper peels
  • Rarely: infection, milia or scarring

Results differ from person to person. A consultation with Dr Essack confirms whether a treatment suits you, what it involves and what it costs.
